Wet sprinkler systems are the most common type of sprinkler installation. Each sprinkler system contains sprinkler heads that have a glass bulb or fusible component that will not allow water to discharge, unless it is activated by the heat of the fire or extreme temperature allowing the water to discharge.
Wet Pipe Systems are also the most reliable, because they are simple, with the only operating components being the automatic sprinklers and the automatic alarm check valve. An automatic water supply provides water under pressure to the system piping. All of the piping is filled with water. Until heat is applied, which causes the sprinklers to open.
Operation - When an automatic sprinkler is exposed to sufficient heat, the heat sensitive element releases, allowing water to flow from the sprinkler.

Dry sprinkler systems use automatic and closed sprinkler heads. However unlike the wet systems that hold water in the pipes, these systems contain compressed air or nitrogen. |

Deluge sprinkler systems are rare and usually only used in areas at risk for high hazard fire and minor explosions as they provide a simultaneous application of water over the entire hazard. |
